Hating your own work
An author I respect had rambled on for pages. And a mere mortal like me couldn’t be immune to the problem.
When I read, “Nobody wants to read your sh*t”, it was clear that I was not being mindful of my reader’s time. Your time.
I was trying to force-fit storytelling principles even when they didn’t apply. I was being verbose when shorter sentences would have been fine.
Instead of being proud of my work, I started to hate the articles I have written. I had the urge to purge all my articles, like they were mandala pieces. And rewrite them.
But before you hate-hate, pause for a second.
There’s beauty in hating your own work. There’s also utility in hating your own work.
When you hate your work, you know you have unlocked a higher level. You know there exists a better. And you know that with some tweaks, you can find it.
And maybe that’s why hating your work isn’t necessarily bad.
